This morning we got up really early and went to Stonehenge. Currently no visitors are allowed to go within about 50 feet of the stone circle. However, several months ago I applied for a special access reservation that allowed us to go in. I am really glad that I did because it was fantastic. Our time was between 6:15 and 7:15 am. It was eerily foggy, which made it that much more amazing. We walked through the stones and took some great photos.
We went back to our fun little B&B for a great breakfast and to spend some time in their beautiful English garden. We then packed up and checked out. The shop and Stonehenge wasn’t open when we were there and everyone wanted to go back, so we stopped there first. By this time it was very crowded and it made us that much happier that we had the special access earlier.
We first drove down to Salisbury to see the Salisbury Cathedral. The cathedral is beautiful and we wish we would have had a little more time to go inside. We had lunch at a little cafe on High Street called Cafe Rouge.
We then drove to Highclere Castle, which is the location for the TV show Downton Abbey. We walked through the castle and it was fun to see all of the rooms where the show is filmed. We also walked through the gardens, which were very nice, but pale in comparison to some of the incredible gardens we have seen in the past few days.
